Data Archival and Migration for an Insurance Group

This project was delivered by members of the current VOTUM team before VOTUM IT EOOD & Co KD was founded in 2024.

Client context

An insurance group decommissioning its OpenText ALM and PPM platforms.

The challenge

Large volumes of historical Oracle database records, extensive attachments and strict audit and compliance obligations meant the data had to remain accessible and secure after the legacy platforms were switched off — without staying tied to the legacy vendor infrastructure.

What the team did

The team designed and implemented a cloud-native archival solution on AWS. The Oracle database was migrated to PostgreSQL on AWS RDS, including schema optimization. Attachments and documents were extracted and structured to preserve their relationships with the underlying data. A lightweight access tool, built for audit and compliance use cases, lets users query archived records and retrieve the related files.

The result

Historical ALM and PPM data preserved in a PostgreSQL archive on AWS, with attachments kept linked to their records and an access tool for audit and compliance queries. Access to the historical data no longer depends on the legacy SaaS platforms.
